Visa Details

Type of Visa -

Student Visas
In most countries, first time student visa applicants are required to appear for an in-person interview. However, each embassy and consulate sets its own interview policies and procedures regarding student visas. Students should consult Embassy web sites or call for specific application instructions.

Immigration Visa -
Immigrating to the United States to live here permanently is an important, and complex decision. This section provides information to help foreign citizens desiring to permanently immigrate to determine the visas, requirements, and related materials they will need to apply to immigrate to the United States. Click on the links to the left for information on visa types, requirements and related materials for permanent immigrants.

Document Required -
The individual who needs to sign the document must appear in person at a consular office, present proper identification (a valid passport, other official photo ID) and pay the appropriate fee. If witnesses are required, you must bring your own. Do not sign the document until requested to do so by the Consular Officer. Depending on the nature of the document, the Consular Officer will either "take an acknowledgment" that your signature was done freely and with an understanding of the document's contents or "administer an oath" whereby you swear or affirm the contents of a document are true.

Fee -
Beginning September 1, 2004, students (visa categories F-1, F-3, M-1, or M-3) and exchange visitors (visa category J-1) wishing to study or fulfill a program in the U.S. will be required to pay a congressionally mandated administrative service fee of U.S. $100, in addition to the regular application fee and/or any reciprocal visa fees.

Certain short-term exchange visitors (au pairs, summer work/travel and camp counselors) will pay a reduced fee of U.S. $35. These fees will cover operational costs of the Student and Exchange Visitors Program (SEVP) and the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)-- an automated process for collecting, maintaining and managing information about international foreign students, exchange visitors and their dependents during their stay in the United States.
