Immigrating to the United States
Immigrant visas (IV) are issued to those who qualify for residence in the United States. There are various classifications of IVs, including family-based, employment visas and speciality visas. To learn more about these types of Immigrant Visas, click on the links in the navigation bar on the left.

Those who successfully apply and are granted an IV are provided with permanent residency status and are issued a "Green Card." Although IVs are adjudicated by the Department of State, a petition must first be filed with the Department of Homeland Security.

lIST OF FEES FOR SELECTED CONSULAR SERVICES
Below is a list of fees for selected consular services. The U.S. Embassy exchange rate is DJF 177 per USD (exception: Non-Immigrant visa fee is DJF 18,000 in local currency). This rate is subject to change without notice. Only cash is currently accepted for payment. If paying in U.S. dollars, 50 and 100 dollar notes must be of 2001 print or later.

Non-Immigrant Visas
Nonimmigrant visas are for international travelers. This visa allows you to travel to a U.S. port-of-entry and request permission from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer, to enter the U.S. A visa does not guarantee entry into the United States.

International travelers visit the U.S. for a wide variety of reasons, including tourism, business, medical treatment, cultural exchange, and certain types of temporary work. The type of visa needed depends on the purpose of the intended travel. If, after his/her visa interview, an applicant qualifies, the Consular Officer will decide what kind of visa best fits the request.

NIV photograph requirements
The photograph format required for the nonimmigrant visa has changed. This format is similar to that required for U.S. passport processing. Photographers can select Photography Guide for detailed information to assist in preparing quality photographs. Applicants, submit your Nonimmigrant Visa Application, DS-156 with the new photo format, as explained below.

General

The photograph for each visa applicant must be an unmounted, full face photo, as described below

The photograph must have been taken within the last six months
