U.S. Immigration: Rumors, Promises And The Truth
The Embassy of the United States of America once again reminds all Pakistanis to be cautious about rumors and advertisements promoting U.S. immigration schemes. US immigration policy is based on law and implemented according to policies published by the U.S. Government. The U.S. Government has no recruitment programs or agents.
Almost all U.S. immigration requires the filing of an immigration petition by an immediate family member (Form I-130) or an employer (Form I-140) with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) in the United States.
U.S. Visa Applications Are Subject To A Greater Degree Of Scrutiny - Students And Other Travelers Should Plan Well In Advance
(Delays in the processing of visas will continue)
Islamabad, August 22, 2002 -- Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the State Department has been engaged with other U.S. government agencies in an extensive and ongoing review of visa issuing practices as they relate to the security of our borders and our nation. Through the use of supplemental application forms and other measures, visa applications are now subject to a greater degree of scrutiny than in the past. This scrutiny means that visa applications in some instances take longer to process to conclusion than has been customary.
Visa Validity
A visa's validity is the period during which the traveler may use a visa to apply for admission to the U.S. It does not indicate the length of time the visitor may stay. An officer of the United States Department of Homeland Security authorizes the traveler's admission to the United States and determines the period of authorized stay.
Immigrant Visas in a Nutshell
The Immigrant visa petition, Form I-130, is filed by the "petitioner," usually an American citizen or legal permanent resident family member, of the person who wishes to immigrate. It is filed with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (formerly INS) in the United States for the "beneficiary" who is the person who wishes to immigrate. If the DHS approves the petition, it is then sent to the National Visa Center (NVC).
