Visa Services
The Consular Section of the US Embassy is now open for full nonimmigrant visa services.
In order to streamline and improve service for scheduling appointments and receiving information on how to apply for a United States visa, the Embassy will be using a new telephone-based service beginning Thursday, January 25, 2007.
The U.S. Visa Information Service (USVIS) provides information about non-immigrant and immigrant visas and schedules all non-immigrant visa interview appointments and some immigrant visa appointments for the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia.
Non-Immigrant Visas
Temporary Visitors to the U.S.
Tips for U.S. Visas:TEMPORARY WORKERS
Welcome to the site for NonImmigrant Visas. The NIV unit at the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia serves Liberian citizens and residents who are seeking visas for temporary visits to the United States.
Nonimmigrant visas are for international travelers (citizens of other countries) coming to the U.S. temporarily. This visa allows you to travel to a U.S. port-of-entry (airport, for example) and request permission of the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Patrol immigration inspector to enter the U.S. A visa does not guarantee entry into the United States.
Student Visas (F1)
If you are going to the U.S. primarily for tourism, but want to take a short course of study of less than 18 hours per week, you may be able to do so do so on a tourist visa. You should inquire at the appropriate U.S. Embassy or Consulate. If your course of study is more than 18 hours a week, you will need a student visa. Please read this information for general information on how to apply for an F1 or M1 student visa.
In most countries, first time student visa applicants are required to appear for an in-person interview. However, each embassy and consulate sets its own interview policies and procedures regarding student visas. Students should consult Embassy web sites or call for specific application instructions.
Appointment Scheduling and Visa Information Service
To receive visa information or to schedule an interview appointment at the Embassy, visa applicants will need to obtain a scratch card from a local vendor for $15.50 US. This card will allow applicants access to a service center located in Dakar, Senegal (the call is a separate charge not included in the price of the scratch card). The card may be used by members of the same family for multiple calls to obtain information and/or schedule appointments for visa interviews. Each card is good for up to a total of 9 minutes of access to the service.
Interview appointments for non-immigrant visas will be scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:00.
