Biographical information

Nora B. Dempsey assumed duties as Consul General of the United States in Florence and Special representative of the United States to the Republic of San Marino at the beginning of September 2005.

From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Consul General Dempsey graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University. She joined the diplomatic corps of the U.S. Department of State in 1987, specializing peace negotiations, particularly in the Middle East and Africa.

From 1991 to 1993, Ms. Dempsey served in the Office of the Secretary of State, where she prepared the visits of U.S. Secretaries of State Baker, Eagleburger and Christopher to more than 22 foreign countries.

U.S. Commercial Service

The Commercial Service Florence, a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Commercial Service Italy, is responsible for the Italian regions of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. Located in central Italy, these are two of Italy's most commercially dynamic areas.

Emilia-Romagna ranks tenth in terms of per capita income among all the regions in Europe. The region is also home to Italy's second largest fair grounds, BolognaFiere, with a calendar of 27 trade events per year, 13 of which are leaders in their fields in Italy and four of which are world-leading events.
