All applicants must use the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF) available on this website. See "How Do I Apply?"
Applicants can book appointments via our on-line system and we usually have next-day availability. See "How Do I Apply?" Expedited interviews can be obtained in circumstances related to medical and humanitarian emergencies, click here. Student and exchange visitors (F, J and M visas), petition-based applicants (H, L, O and P visas), crew members (C1/D visa) and Macau residents do not need appointments – these applicants can walk in daily from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

The Immigrant Visa Unit processes applications for persons who are interested in living and working permanently in the United States. In general, there are three avenues for immigrating to the United States:

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING APPLICANTS FROM MACAU AND THE PRC
All Macau and People's Republic of China residents will have their visa appointments scheduled directly by the Immigrant Visa Section. The Immigrant Visa Section no longer accepts walk-in applicants from Macau. Immigrant visa applicants whose cases are ready for interview will be contacted by letter with the date and time of their interview.
Visa Waiver Program (VWP)
Visa Waiver Program Update--German Passport Holders
As of May 1, 2006 German temporary/emergency passports will no longer be valid for travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). German regular, official, and diplomatic passports remain valid for VWP travel, per current VWP passport requirements (see www.travel.state.gov for additional details on the need for machine-readable, biometrically enabled passports).
