General Information
New Visa Application Requirement
The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Libreville requests all non-immigrant visa applicants to use the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF) found at http://evisaforms.state.gov/. Using this form will allow for faster processing of your application.
As a result of a new worldwide regulation, the Embassy will no longer provide the paper DS-156 non-immigrant visa application form effective October 16, 2006. However, applicants who obtained the paper form prior to that date may still present it at their interview until October 27, 2006.
Appointment Process
Non-immigrant visas will be processed by appointment only every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00am-12:30pm. Persons with an appointment wishing to travel for business, tourism, studies, etc. may come at this time. Eligibility requirements and necessary documentation vary for each visa type. If a visa is issued, it will be ready for pick-up the same day after 4:30pm or the following day after 9:00am. With few exceptions, all applicants must appear in person for the interview.
Student Visas
Students who have been accepted to study at accredited educational institutions in the U.S. must present an approved form I-20 and proof of SEVIS payment prior to obtaining a student visa. Anyone traveling to the United States for academic study (including European Union citizens) must obtain a student visa prior to travel.
All applicants for a student visa must present the necessary and completed application form(s), passport, fee and the form I-20 (demonstrating acceptance at a U.S. institution). They must also be prepared to show:
transcripts and diplomas from other educational institutions attended;
scores from standardized tests required by the U.S. institution (e.g., TOEFL);
financial evidence that the applicant or his/her sponsor has sufficient funds to cover the tuition and living expenses during the period of intended study.
Government Travel (A & G Visas)
Persons traveling to the US on official government business may not apply directly at the Embassy for a visa. All visa applications for official travel must go through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Any person going to the United States on official government business must obtain an official (A or G) visa before traveling. Official travel includes anyone assigned to a Gabonese mission in Washington, DC or New York, as well as any travel by persons representing the government on a temporary mission to the U.S. paid for by the Government of Gabon. Gabonese citizens hired to work directly for certain international organizations in the United States are eligible for G visas.
