General Information
The Consular Section of the American Embassy in Ouagadougou is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and on Friday from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM local time. The local time is equivalent to GMT. The Consular Section is closed during American and local holidays. The entrance for the Consular Section is located on Avenue John F. Kennedy, Koulouba, Secteur 4.

Student Visas
Persons who wish to study in the United States need to apply for a student visa at the Embassy. Applicants fill out an application form that is available at the Embassy or on the Internet at http://evisaforms.state.gov/. Applicants must provide their passport, a photograph, proof of financing for their study, and a Form I-20 issued by the school or university in the United States.

Please note that students’ applications are received on regular visa days, i.e. Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 11:30. Special accommodations are made during the summer. Please call for more info.

Immigrant Visa
An immigrant visa is required of anyone who wishes to enter the United States to reside there permanently, whether or not that person plans to seek employment in the United States. U.S. immigration law provides for the issuance of immigrant visas in four general categories: Immediate Relatives, Family- Based, Employment-Based and Diversity Visa Program known as the “green card” lottery.
