Immigrant Visas
Foreign citizens wishing to immigrate to live permanently in the U.S. must comply with U.S. visa immigration law, and specific procedures to apply for your visa. Based on law, not everyone will receive a visa to come to the U.S.
Non-Immigrant Visas
Nonimmigrant visas are for international travelers, (citizens of other countries), coming to the U.S. temporarily. This visa allows you to travel to a U.S. port-of-entry (airport, for example) and request permission of the Department of Homeland Security immigration inspector to enter the U.S. A visa does not guarantee entry into the United States.
International travelers come to the U.S. for a wide variety of reasons, including tourism, business, medical treatment and certain types of temporary work.
Lost/Stolen Resident Alien Card
If your resident alien card (or green card) has been stolen or if it is lost, you may apply for a transportation letter in order to return to the United States. The Embassy is unable to issue a replacement green card because it can be issued only by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in the United States.
In order to apply for this transportation letter, you may come to the Immigrant Visa Section from Monday through Thursday between 2.00 and 4.30 p.m. in person with the following documents:
Your Passport
proof that you are a resident of the United States (e.g., your alien number, a copy of your green card)
proof that you have not been away from your U.S. residence for more than one year a police report showing that the card was lost or stolen four full-face color photographs of 5 cm by 5 cm with a white background, taken within the last 6 months. Please note that this size is larger than the standard Belgian passport photo size.
